Summer flea season is here and people are itching for a cure. Many people try to get rid of these blood suckers on their own but have a hard time doing so. The reason for this is that the Dog Flea & Cat Flea the two most common breeds of these pest have a 4 stage life cycle which makes it tough for store bought products to last long enough to work. You need a residual pesticide with a growth regulator additive to last through the egg, larva, pupa and adult stages of the flea. The biggest thing you can do to help get rid of these pest is vacuum real well and often and keep grass cut low. If the problem gets to severe and you call out a pest control company you need to prep the home by washing the floors, and getting shoes and toys off the floor. When we treat a home for fleas we spray all the floors from one end of the home to the other. We also do a crack and crevice treatment throughout the home including furniture. You can expect to be evicted from your home for at least 2 hours so you might need to take your family to dinner or a movie. It takes a good 21 days for the flea problem to go away so you have to be patient because sometimes it will seem like they are gone after the first week then they come back, well this is because we killed the adults and the other stages have developed and will soon be effected by the long residual product that we treated with. So if you go on vacation and come back and you get swarmed with flea bites its not that they missed you it’s that they need your blood and are thirsty for it. This is a sure sign of a heavy infestation and you may need to call a professional pest control company.
